Elimination/Getting Out
Most, if not all, fields will use tournament rules that are decided by
tournament leagues like NPPL and NXL. According to their rules an
elimination occurs when "A player is eliminated from the game when he
is marked anywhere on his body, clothing or equipment with a
quarter-sized or larger splat caused by a direct hit from a single
paintball." When you are eliminated, you will be asked to quickly walk
off to the side of the field where you can watch until the second round
begins.
Safety On The Field
Never use equipment
that is not rated for paintball use. This is especially true of masks
because not all masks are rated to take the impact of a paintball at
300 fps. Always pay attention to the field safety briefing at the start
of the day. Each field may do things a little differently but for the
most part you will be expected to keep you barrel plugged or covered at
all times unless on the field. Never take off your mask on the field,
EVER. Removing your mask will result in your removal from the field for
the day. Lastly, you will need to keep your speeds/velocity of your
paintballs at the posted speed on the field. Usually speeds are kept
well under 300fps to prevent a mask from being broken. This is done at
the chronograph, a machine that uses radar to rate your speed. You must
always chronograph in front of a ref before play starts.
The Field Pieces
If you are playing on an Airball field, you will notice all of the
inflated bunkers. These are made of heavy weight materials that are
designed for paintball. These bunkers can be shot and are designed to
be your protection but if you are not careful you can be hurt. These
bunkers are anchored down with stakes that are underneath the bunker.
Be careful of them when you slide into a bunker. If a stake is exposed
or if you accidentally knock the bunker down, just bring it to the
attention of a ref.
Field Conduct
An important factor in have a good time is how you and others act on the
field. A big point is not arguing with the refs. If you feel you have
been victim of a bad call, just calmly explain to the ref that you want
clarification of what happened after the game. The refs are there to
help keep the game moving and fun, but at the same time, they want to
keep you safe. So in general, don't argue with a ref.
Swearing on the field is not allowed and as a rule
of good conduct, watch what you say. A lot of kids and young adults are
around you and fields don't want that kind of language being picked up
on their field.
What to bring on your first day
You will want to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty/ruined.
You also will want to bring stuff like your mask, paintball gun, air
tank, barrel plug, and some tools, if you plan on using your own stuff.
If you want to rent, then just bring yourself and some money. Also you
may want to pack a lunch and some cool water to drink for later in the
day. You may be able to buy these things at the field but they will be
a little overpriced.
